Mason Child brings a live left arm and winning pedigree to UNCW
Mason Child is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed pitcher for UNC Wilmington who arrives with a strong high-school résumé and some sneaky appeal. In 2024 at Charlotte Catholic, he logged 53.1 innings with a 1.71 ERA and earned Southwestern 4A Conference Championship Tournament MVP honors, which suggests he competes in big moments and can miss bats when it matters. UNCW listed him as a redshirt freshman in 2026, so the key question is upside and development rather than finished product. He looks like a fit for a staff that values strike-throwing, competitiveness, and projection.
