Money from Deep, Deadly Reliable in Clutch Spots
John Shaughnessy was a high-end specialist for Northwestern State, and in the 2012 season he was one of the Southland’s most dependable kicking weapons, earning Special Teams Player of the Week after drilling two 42-yard fourth-quarter field goals in a win over Nicholls. His calling card was range plus composure: he hit a school-record 12 straight field goals in 2011, made 20 of his last 24, and had already delivered a 50-yard career long. Beyond the numbers, he was a leadership-council type with strong academics and a reputation for handling pressure.
