the glue-guy forward who helped power UNM’s rise
Roman Martinez was a high-IQ, do-everything forward for New Mexico, best known for his unselfish play, toughness, and knack for impacting winning beyond raw scoring. In the 2009-10 season, he averaged 13.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while helping the Lobos go 30-5, win a second straight Mountain West title, and reach the NCAA Tournament round of 32; his career also included 1,161 points, 633 rebounds and 205 threes. He’s the kind of player coaches love: versatile, reliable, and relentlessly team-first, with proven leadership and academic excellence to match.
