Tyler Matheny brings veteran, do-everything linebacker production to Western Carolina
In the 2023 season, Tyler Matheny appeared in all 11 games for Western Carolina and posted 18 total tackles, including a sack, while consistently showing up in 10 of 11 games on the stat sheet[2][5]. He’s a versatile, high-motor linebacker with proven special-teams value and experience at Virginia Tech, where he logged 22 career tackles and an interception return for 16 yards[1][11]. The appeal is reliability, toughness, and snap-ready experience — a good fit for a team needing a steady, physical defender who won’t blink in big moments[2][11].
