steady, versatile Kansas big who did the dirty work
Jeff Carey was a 6-11 Kansas forward/center whose value came more from reliability than box-score fireworks: in the 2000-01 season he averaged 1.6 points and 2.1 rebounds while giving KU size, touch, and frontcourt flexibility, and he also earned academic All-Big 12 recognition. He was praised as versatile, with good size and good touch, and he even played through a prior broken-finger injury that cost him seven games the year before. For a team, he looks like a low-maintenance, team-first big who brings depth, maturity, and a hard-nosed, quietly useful presence.
