John Tranchitella brings proven NIU linebacker depth and disruptive tackling traits
Tranchitella is a steady, physical Northern Illinois linebacker who showed real production in the 2025 season, finishing with 15 tackles, 12 solo stops, 2 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks. His value goes beyond the box score: NIU’s roster notes and record book profile him as a linebacker/defensive presence with enough range to contribute in multiple spots, while recruiting profiles show he entered college with a solid, if not elite, evaluation. He looks like a fit for teams that want toughness, reliable effort, and a player who can make clean, assignment-sound plays rather than just chase highlights.
