Garrett Helsel gives Xavier a big, durable lefty with late-inning value
In the 2026 season, Garrett Helsel emerged as a reliable Xavier arm, posting a 4.35 ERA over 41.1 innings with 41 strikeouts, six saves, and a 1.43 WHIP while earning First Team All-BIG EAST honors[5]. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound senior from Blacklick, Ohio, brings a big-frame left-handed look, strike-throwing ability, and real leverage-inning flexibility, with conference numbers that were even sharper: a 3.32 ERA, 17 strikeouts, and just nine walks in league play[1][5].
