Veteran Alabama State road-grater with a proven left-tackle résumé
Matthew Bates brings veteran size and stability to Alabama State’s offensive line, listed at 6-3, 305 and long used at tackle, where he’s been trusted to handle the dirty work in pass protection and run blocking[2][10][13]. In earlier Alabama State coverage, he was described as a productive left tackle who had matured into a reliable piece, and he earned All-SWAC recognition in the 2015 recap[5][6]. The fit? He looks like a strong glue-guy for a line needing experience, toughness, and consistency rather than flash[5][6].
