steady, versatile Stony Brook infielder with a breakout bat
In the 2026 season, James Schaffer turned into a lineup regular for Stony Brook, starting all 49 games and posting a .257/.380/.354 line with 38 hits, 22 RBI, 22 walks, and 10 steals in 14 tries. He brings sneaky value: on-base skill, aggressive but smart baserunning, and enough contact pop to punish mistakes, including a three-run homer against Siena in March 2026. He also finished with a six-game hitting streak and was recognized for academic excellence, which fits the profile of a dependable, high-effort glue guy who can help a team in multiple ways.
