Elite pedigree, NFL-caliber traits, but Florida State never got the full return
Matthew Thomas entered Florida State as a five-star linebacker and flashed rare speed/size traits, but his college arc was defined more by interruptions than domination: in the 2016 season he was delayed by a shoulder injury, had already missed time due to NCAA suspension, and finished with 26 tackles in the games he played. The big draw is obvious—length, athletic upside, and a history of highly regarded recruiting rankings—but the caution flag is just as loud: inconsistency, injuries, and availability issues have kept him from becoming a reliable every-down difference-maker. Great upside, but not a clean “plug-and-play” answer.
