Ryan Nehlen brings WVU a coach’s eye, walk-on grit, and endurance-driven work ethic
Ryan Nehlen is not a current on-field statistical producer for West Virginia; instead, he’s a former Mountaineer receiver who returned to the program in 2024 as an assistant wide receivers coach after time as a senior offensive analyst and two years coaching tight ends at McNeese State.[3][13] As a player, he earned WVU’s Tom Nickolich Award as the top walk-on and turned limited chances into 12 career catches for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns, which speaks to toughness, reliability, and an underdog edge.[4][13] His recent Boston Marathon-qualifying run also reinforces a high-intensity, detail-oriented profile that fits a development-focused staff or culture.[14]
