veteran ball hawk with proven All-America pedigree
In the 2026 season, Appalachian State’s Cortez Gilbert profile suggests a defensive back with real playmaking DNA: ESPN lists him on the Mountaineers’ roster, and his career background includes All-America and all-conference recognition for elite pass defense and tackling production. His differentiators are instincts, coverage polish, and willingness to hit—exactly the kind of DB who can tilt a game with a breakup or turnover. The big question isn’t talent; it’s whether you want a seasoned, high-IQ defender who brings physicality and production rather than just measurables.
