Christian Pownall brings a lefty relief look with upside, but the command has to sharpen up
In the 2026 season, Christian Pownall is a junior left-handed pitcher for Mount St. Mary’s who arrived via the transfer portal after stops at Ohio State and Saint Louis, giving him the kind of experienced, multi-school background coaches usually love. His biggest differentiators are the left-on-left angle, relief experience, and competitive pedigree; at Saint Louis in 2025 he logged 14 appearances, mostly out of the bullpen, but the walk rate showed command was the swing skill. He debuted for the Mount in February 2026 and has shown strikeout ability in short bursts, making him a good fit for a staff that can develop a gritty, projectable arm rather than a finished product.
