Houston freshman Will Van Wie brings size, local pedigree, and upside to the Cougars’ outfield
In the 2026 season, Will Van Wie played in 12 games with three starts for Houston, earning Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team honors while logging a .000/.200/.000 line and two runs scored[1][4]. The 6-foot-3 Houston native out of Memorial gives the Cougars a long, athletic outfield profile with local familiarity and a strong baseball background; he was a featured offensive leader at Memorial and a KPRC 2 Athlete of the Week in 2025[1][10]. He looks like more of a developmental fit than an instant stat-sheet popper right now, but the frame and room to grow are the calling cards.
