From Kentucky Walk-On to Cal's Recruiting Powerhouse
Matt Scherbenske, a walk-on guard for the Kentucky Wildcats from 1998-2001 with no recorded stats or minutes, transitioned into elite recruiting roles, landing Cal the #8 transfer class (On3, 2023) featuring NBA lottery pick Jaylon Tyson and Pac-12 rebounding leader Fardaws Aimaq (11.0 RPG, 2023-24); now a key assistant under Mark Madsen, his behind-the-scenes hustle, shooter pedigree from Oak Hill Academy (48% 3PT), and program-reviving energy make him a differentiator for any team seeking roster transformers over on-court stars.
