Scott Shanle was a walk-on who became a Nebraska linebacker staple
Scott Shanle’s Nebraska story is classic blackshirt grit: a walk-on who earned a scholarship, started at Sam linebacker for multiple seasons, and in 2002 led the Huskers’ regular senior starters with 71 tackles while finishing his career with 183 tackles and two honorable-mention All-Big 12 nods. He stood out for durability, toughness, and instincts rather than flash — the kind of dependable, high-motor defender coaches trust because he shows up every snap and makes the defense feel organized, physical, and stubborn.
