Russ Filter is a steady, local backstop with a pro-style path behind the plate
In the 2026 season, Santa Clara catcher Russ Filter is a redshirt sophomore who debuted in 2025 after a redshirt year in 2024, giving him the kind of runway coaches love for a development-minded defender[1][2]. At 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, he brings a compact, catch-and-throw profile and the bonus of being a hometown product from Santa Clara, which often signals extra comfort and buy-in in the program[1][3]. His value is less about flash and more about trust: a catcher who has already stuck with the roster through patience, progression, and a collegiate debut[1][2].
