Matt Stuart’s complete-game punch gives Gardner-Webb a rotation weapon
In the 2026 season, Gardner-Webb RHP Matt Stuart showed starter value with a 4-3 record and a 7.94 ERA in 22.2 innings, but his calling card was ceiling: he authored a nine-inning, two-hit shutout at UNC Asheville on April 3, 2026, and later threw 5.0 innings with eight hits and two runs in a win over Presbyterian. At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, the freshman righty looks built to handle college innings, and his best fit is a staff that can develop a big, durable arm with upside.
