Stony Brook’s Syracuse-Born Guard with 2021-22 Floor-General Grit
Preston Shumpert, a 6-foot guard from Syracuse, NY wearing #12 for the Stony Brook Seawolves, showed steady floor presence in the 2021-22 season as a key contributor in the America East, though his most recent full-season stats are limited in public databases post-2022. His differentiators include a calm, deliberate pace, strong defensive positioning, and a knack for reading pick-and-rolls—traits that make him a reliable secondary ball-handler. While not a high-volume scorer, Shumpert’s low turnover rate and consistent free-throw shooting (FT% in the 70s in 2021-22) reflect maturity under pressure. No major injury history is documented, and teammates describe him as intense but team-first. For a team needing a steady, intelligent guard who elevates possession quality without flashy stats, Shumpert is a solid fit—especially in systems that prioritize defense and controlled offense over explosive scoring.
