Mercer’s Ismael Borrero brings strikeout punch and starter-like poise
In the 2026 season, Mercer RHP Ismael Borrero has shown impact stuff and a calm, attack-the-zone profile: he earned a win with 3.0 scoreless innings, 6 strikeouts, and no walks against Florida A&M, and later worked 1.1 shutout innings with 2 more strikeouts against Penn[1][2]. Mercer’s own preseason preview called him a pitcher with experience “in every aspect of the game” and praised that “his stuff is outstanding,” which fits a useful high-leverage arm who can miss bats without giving away free bases[3].
