Tanner Rice is a depth, development, and academics-first defender for Fresno State
Rice’s profile is less about box-score production and more about reliability: Fresno State lists him as a defensive lineman, and his 2020 season notes say he did not see game action but was recognized as a scout-team player of the week and earned Fall Academic All-Mountain West honors. His differentiators are commitment, practice-value, and classroom consistency rather than proven game-day impact, with high-school honors as an all-conference/all-Valley selection. He looks like a low-risk culture fit for a program that values depth, effort, and developmental upside.[2][3]
