Woody Payne gives Detroit a steady, defense-first backcourt spark
Woody Payne profiles as a **pass-first guard** who already shows real value in the little things: in the 2024-25 roster notes, he averaged **5.5 points**, **3.6 rebounds** and a team-best **4.1 assists**, while also leading the Horizon League with a **2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio**.[2] He also flashes disruptive defense, with **2.2 steals per game** listed by Fanstake, suggesting active hands and good anticipation.[1] If you want a guard who can organize an offense, protect the ball, and compete hard on both ends, Payne looks like a reliable fit.[1][2]
