Avery Hughes brings veteran secondary value, with game-ready DB versatility and a bounce-back story
Avery Hughes entered Lamar in 2024 as a junior defensive back and played in nine games, finishing that season with four total tackles and a pass breakup, including three solo stops and a PBU at Northwestern State. He’s the kind of depth piece coaches like: experienced, physical enough to show up in the run game, and credible in coverage when asked to rotate or start. The biggest differentiator is his resilience and maturity after a season-ending injury before arriving at Lamar, which adds some real grit to the profile.
