Northwestern’s Garrett Shearer: power arm, improving command, rotation upside
In the 2026 season, Northwestern right-hander Garrett Shearer has shown why coaches keep handing him big innings: he’s a 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore/junior-level arm with strikeout stuff and enough poise to start, highlighted by a solid 4.0-inning, one-run outing against Omaha and a 5.0-inning, four-run win at Michigan State[2][7][10]. The caveat is command—earlier 2026 outings included some short starts and walks, so his fit is best for teams that can develop his fastball-discipline mix and live with a little volatility while the strike-throwing catches up[10][11][14][15].
