Big-bodied Memphis righty with swing-and-miss upside, but command still dictates the ceiling
In the 2026 season, Memphis RHP Will Howell entered the year as a Pitcher of the Year watch-list arm after posting a 2.36 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 17 walks in 26.2 innings in the 2025 season, showing the kind of power stuff scouts like to chase.[1][4][9] He’s a 6-foot-4, 240-pound redshirt sophomore who attacks from the right side, and his profile has flashed both starter volume and relief bite, including a 7.0-inning, 3-hit, 1-run outing at Rice in 2026.[1][15] The hook here: real bat-missing ability and rotation-grade size, but the 2026 results also showed volatility, so he looks like a fit for teams betting on upside and pitchability rather than a finished product.[1][6][10]
