Alex Sobol brings size, lefty shape, and swing-and-miss upside to UNCW’s rotation
In the 2026 season, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound left-hander showed real value as a starter for UNC Wilmington, including a five-inning outing at Charleston Southern with one hit, two walks, and five strikeouts, while also working against top-tier competition like NC State and UNC. His calling card is a heavy frame, left-on-left matchup value, and a profile that can miss bats; UNCW listed him as a sophomore after a junior-college transfer who had held hitters to a .163 average at Gaston College before arriving in Wilmington. He looks like a useful arm if you want size, strikeout potential, and developmental upside.
