Former NC State guard who brought size and scoring pedigree, but never carved out a big college role
In the 2017-18 season, Spencer Newman’s NC State impact was limited to 6 games and 1.8 minutes per game, with 0.0 points and 0.7 rebounds per game, after a redshirt year ended by injury.[2][4] What makes him interesting is the backstory: a 6-foot-3 guard from Bayside Academy who was a high-volume high school scorer, finishing as his school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,232 points and earning first-team all-state honors as a senior.[1] He looked like a spot-shooting walk-on with upside, but injuries and a tiny college sample kept the production from matching the résumé.[10][15]
