a freshman reliever with real swing-and-miss upside
In the 2026 season, Norfolk State freshman right-hander James Godfrey has worked mostly in relief, showing a usable strikeout pitch with a 4-K outing against Towson and earning a win with two scoreless innings against Virginia State. He’s a live-arm bullpen option at 6-foot-0, 175 pounds with early college experience against quality competition, and his value is in giving the Spartans a fresh, developmental arm who can miss bats in short bursts. For a team seeking upside and patience, he looks like a good fit.
