the walk-on Vol kicker who answered the call
In the 2009 season, Devin Mathis provided Tennessee with steady emergency kicking work, going 2-for-2 on field goals and 9-for-9 on extra points while stepping in as a walk-on in pressure spots[3]. His differentiator was poise: he came off the bench and delivered key kicks in tight games, including a 25-yard field goal against Vanderbilt and a 30-yarder at Kentucky[1][2]. If you value a dependable, low-drama specialist who can handle sudden game-day chaos, Mathis fit the bill.
