UC San Diego LHP Julian Cazares brings arm speed and upside, but current results are still stabilizing
Cazares is an athletic lefty whose appeal is his fast, whippy arm, low-three-quarters slot, and a pitch mix that has climbed to the mid-90s with a sharper slider and improving changeup, giving him real starter upside if the command keeps tightening.[2] In his 2025 UC San Diego season, he worked 10.1 innings with 12 strikeouts but also allowed 14 hits and finished with an 8.71 ERA, so the present performance says development is still the story rather than polish.[1] He fits best with a team willing to bet on projection, strikeout traits, and long-term growth over immediate consistency.[2][6]
