Derrick McFall is SMU’s versatile, explosive back with real big-play juice
In the 2024 season, Derrick McFall flashed as a multipurpose weapon for SMU, posting 26 carries for 106 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs, plus 3 receptions for 30 yards; in 2025, SMU put him on the Doak Walker Award watch list, a strong sign the staff sees real growth ahead. He’s a 5'11", 182-187-pound back who brings versatility, burst, and scoring upside, especially when used in space. The hook here is not just stat-line production, but a player with upside, return-on-touch explosiveness, and a recruiting pedigree that suggests more is still coming.
