Returning Aztecs leader, but 2026 ended by ACL injury
Staley looked like a defensive tone-setter for San Diego State in the 2025 season, leading the Aztecs with 81 tackles, plus 1 interception and 10 pass breakups, and he briefly explored the portal before choosing to stay because of the program’s fit and culture. He’s praised for sticky coverage, sure tackling, and veteran leadership—real “do-your-job-and-make-the-hit” safety energy. The catch: in August 2026, reporting said he tore his ACL in spring practice and is out for the season, so he’s a strong fit long-term, but not a 2026-impact add.
