WVU’s walk-on safety who keeps climbing
Avery Wilcox is a 6-foot, 207-pound redshirt junior safety for West Virginia who has built his value on reliability, special teams grit, and steady growth rather than headline-grabbing stats. In 2023, he played in all 13 games, logged 120 snaps with 97 on special teams, and even flashed big-play ability with a 34-yard interception return against Duquesne. He also won WVU’s 2024 Tommy Nickolich Award as the team’s top walk-on, which says plenty about his toughness, work ethic, and coach trust. If you want a depth piece who brings effort, discipline, and program-first energy, he fits.
