Wade Sumpter brings veteran two-way toughness to Northern Colorado’s defense
Wade Sumpter is a physical, experienced linebacker for Northern Colorado whose game stands out for tackling and coverage instincts; he was moved from offensive stardom in high school into a defensive role because coaches valued those traits. In his senior season at UNC, he started at outside linebacker and paired steady production with playmaking—52 tackles and 3 interceptions, including a pick-six. That mix of versatility, ball skills, and special-teams value makes him the kind of gritty, reliable defender teams love: not flashy, just useful in all the best ways.
