Tommy McGuire brings size, swing-and-miss, and late-inning punch to GCU’s staff
In the 2026 season, Tommy McGuire is a 6-5, 255-pound junior right-hander and first-year Grand Canyon arm who has shown real bullpen value with scoreless outings, including a two-inning, four-strikeout relief stint against UC Irvine and a three-strikeout, scoreless appearance against Pacific.[1][2][7] Grand Canyon’s own coverage has credited the Lopes’ back end with three scoreless innings and seven strikeouts in a game McGuire shared, pointing to a power profile that can miss bats when his command is on.[11] He looks like a fit for teams that want a big-bodied, attack-minded reliever with leverage-innings upside, though he has also been hit when traffic builds, so the question is less talent and more consistency.[2][8]
