Carlos Diaz brings pop, size, and upside behind the plate for WCU
In the 2026 season, Western Carolina catcher Carlos Diaz flashed immediate offensive upside as a freshman, finishing .300 with a home run and four RBI, while also showing early defensive value by throwing out a runner in scrimmage action and earning praise as North Carolina’s No. 1 catching prospect before arriving on campus. At 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, he has the frame and physicality coaches love, plus enough bat-to-ball and emerging power to make him more than just a glove-first backstop.
