Deontae West brings ball-hawk DNA to Marshall’s secondary
A 5-foot-9, 167-pound freshman DB from Hollywood, Fla., Deontae West arrives at Marshall with a reputation for playmaking: 91 tackles and 11 interceptions in high school, plus all-county honors and an all-star nod. His profile suggests quick processing, aggressive instincts, and a knack for finding the football—traits that translate well to nickel or safety depth if he adds strength. He was also recruited over multiple Power and Group of Five programs, which hints at legit upside. He looks like a high-motor, turnover-driven defender who could fit a competitive secondary if the physical development comes along.
