Rutgers walk-on guard who brought hustle, IQ, and academic discipline
Alana Ferruggiaro was a Rutgers women’s basketball guard who appeared in four games in the 2015-16 season and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors, signaling a high-IQ, team-first profile rather than a stats-heavy role. A local Maplewood, N.J. product and Columbia High School alum, she fit the mold of a dependable walk-on: low-ego, attentive to detail, and valued for practice toughness and depth rather than box-score production. If you’re looking for a gritty, coachable guard who can support culture and bench energy, she’s the kind of player who quietly helps a program function.
