Mike Welch brings reliable depth and special-teams grit to Houston’s secondary
In the latest available Houston roster info, Mike Welch is a 5-foot-10, 195-pound defensive back from Dickinson, Texas who appeared in three games in the 2023 season and did not record a statistic[1]. His earlier Houston notes show he played primarily on special teams, logged 44 snaps in 2022, and missed the final eight games that season with a knee injury[5]. The appeal here is toughness and versatility more than flashy numbers: he looks like a high-effort depth piece who can help on coverage units and provide steady, physical back-end support when healthy[1][5].
