Nic Werk brings versatile glove-work and athletic upside to SDSU
Werk is a freshman utility player/pitcher for South Dakota State who already earned an Opening Day start in left field, appeared at second base, and led the Jackrabbits with four outfield assists in 2025. His profile suggests more value in speed, defensive versatility, and contact-oriented athleticism than in raw power right now, and he showed enough trust from the staff to start 43 of 47 games as a first-year player. For a team, that makes him a useful depth piece with real defensive flexibility and room to grow offensively.
