Varnie Dennis was a bruising, high-usage frontcourt anchor for Cal Poly
In the 2003-04 season, Varnie Dennis gave Cal Poly a dependable inside scorer and rebounder, averaging 18.3 points and 7.9 rebounds while playing 33.1 minutes per game and shooting 49.3% from the field. He was a physical, matchup problem in the post, with the kind of stamina and toughness that forced double-teams, but the flip side was limited perimeter shooting and only moderate playmaking. If you want a rugged forward who can score through contact and control the glass, he’s your guy; if you need floor spacing, he’s not built for that life.
