Gaines Burnett brings veteran edge and disruptive DE traits to Furman
Burnett profiles as a reliable, high-motor defensive end for Furman, with documented production in his earlier Paladin seasons and a reputation for doing the dirty work up front. In the 2006 Furman season stats, he recorded 14 tackles with 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss, and in 2005 he logged 23 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss; those numbers point to a steady rotational presence rather than a flashy stat-collector. The appeal is the blend of experience, toughness, and line discipline—exactly the kind of player coaches trust when they want edge-setting, effort, and consistency over headlines.
