Wes Baker is the Bearkats’ freshman power bat behind the plate
In the 2026 season, Sam Houston catcher Wes Baker emerged as a switch-hitting freshman spark, leading the Bearkats with 8 home runs and 39 RBI while posting a .265 average and earning All-CUSA Freshman Team honors. He jumped on the scene with a home run in his first collegiate at-bat, then kept producing in big moments, including a grand slam against Texas. Why care? He brings middle-of-the-order pop, RBI production, and a competitive edge that already looks college-ready; if you want a catcher with real offensive upside, he fits.
