Cal’s rebounding anchor and two-way paint menace
Ashley Walker was one of Cal women’s basketball’s defining interior forces, pairing elite rebounding with efficient scoring and rim protection; in the 2008 season she averaged 19.1 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 54.1% from the field, and Cal’s own Hall of Fame notes credit her with 2,142 career points and 1,117 rebounds, plus the program’s first Sweet 16 run in 2009.[6][10] What makes her special is the hard-nosed edge: she was repeatedly praised for her effort in practice, defensive impact, and ability to deliver in big moments, which is exactly the kind of tone-setter a good team wants in the frontcourt.[7][11][14]
