Matthew Jones brings freshman size and upside to Richmond’s secondary
In the 2026 season, Richmond freshman DB Matthew Jones has already shown early utility with 2 total tackles, and his 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame gives the Spiders a big, physical defensive back with developmental upside.[2][1] Richmond signed him out of The Haverford School after he piled up 158 tackles and 4 interceptions in high school, and reports highlighted that he originally had a James Madison commitment before landing with the Spiders.[4] He looks like a fit if a team wants length, toughness, and room to grow rather than a finished product.
