Malik Welch brings veteran DB experience and ball-hawking flashes to McNeese
Malik Welch is a seasoned defensive back who has shown steady production across multiple stops, including tackles and pass-breakup ability, with ESPN listing his career totals at 14 tackles, 2 pass defenses, and 1 tackle-for-loss through the latest available stats for the 2026 season window[1][3]. The big selling point is versatility and pedigree: McNeese’s roster bio says he transferred in after stops at San Jose State and Long Beach City College, where he earned second-team All-Northern League honors and posted 51 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, and 6 pass breakups in 2019[2]. He looks like the kind of DB who can bring experience, urgency, and a nose for the ball—useful for a team wanting a dependable, competitive backend piece rather than just raw athletic upside[2][13].
