Central Michigan mounted a season-opening road victory over San Jose State, edging the Spartans 16-14 at CEFCU Stadium. The Chippewas built an early 13-0 lead behind Trey Cornist's 29-yard touchdown run and two Cade Graham field goals. Though the Spartans rallied to take a 14-13 advantage on Walker Eget's touchdown passes to Leland Smith and Danny Scudero, Graham's clutch 28-yard field goal with 4:13 remaining proved to be the game-winner for Central Michigan.
