Utah State opened their season with a convincing 28-16 victory over UTEP, powered by quarterback Bryson Barnes who both threw and ran for touchdowns. Miles Davis electrified the home crowd with a 58-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, helping the Aggies take a lead they never relinquished. The Miners showed flashes of offense behind Malachi Nelson's 34-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Odom, but Utah State's balanced attack proved too much at Maverik Stadium.
