The San Jose State Spartans escaped the islands with a hard-fought 20-16 victory over Hawaii in the Dick Tomey Legacy Game at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex. In a defensive slugfest that featured 183 plays, the Spartans managed to hold off a scrappy Rainbow Warriors squad that battled until the final whistle. This Mountain West showdown lived up to its billing as a grind-it-out conference clash. San Jose State's defense proved to be the difference, keeping Hawaii out of the end zone when it mattered most. The Rainbow Warriors fought valiantly on their home turf in Honolulu, but ultimately couldn't generate enough offense to overcome the Spartans' stingy defensive effort. The four-point margin doesn't tell the full story of a game where every yard was earned the hard way.
