Recap

Tennessee's defense suffocated Iowa State in this Sweet 16 thriller at the United Center, holding the No. 2 seed to just 62 points. The Volunteers trailed 33-34 at halftime but seized control with a devastating 10-2 run midway through the second half that pushed their lead to 14 points. Iowa State mounted a desperate comeback, but Tennessee's clutch execution down the stretch proved decisive—Ethan Burg's layup with 33 seconds remaining and Bishop Boswell's free throws sealed the upset. The No. 6 seed's defense was the story, forcing both teams into early scoring droughts that kept this battle tight. Tennessee's 76-62 victory sends them to the Elite Eight and eliminates the favored Cyclones, capping an incredible tournament run. The Volunteers' ability to weather Iowa State's second-half push and execute in crunch time was championship-caliber basketball.
